Scope of Practice:

I’m Tammy Schamuhn, a Registered Psychologist, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, educator, author, and passionate advocate for children’s mental health. I’m the Co-Founder of the Institute of Child Psychology, where I work to bridge the gap between research and practice by providing accessible, evidence-informed education and resources to parents, educators, and mental health professionals worldwide. I’m also the co-host of The Child Psych Podcast, and co-author of The Parenting Handbook, where we share practical, research-informed insights to help parents better understand and support their children.

With extensive experience in private practice, I specialize in supporting children, adolescents, and families through play therapy, attachment-based interventions, trauma-informed care, and emotional regulation strategies. My clinical work is grounded in a deep understanding of child development and the importance of connection, relationships, and experiential healing.

I’m also the Co-Founder of the Child-Centered Animal-Assisted Therapy Association (CCAATA) and the founder of Hooves of Hope Ranch, where I integrate animals, nature, and experiential approaches into therapeutic work. I’m particularly passionate about the unique capacity of animals and the natural world to foster emotional safety, connection, self-awareness, and healing.

Through my clinical practice, writing, podcasting, professional training, and speaking engagements, I’m dedicated to empowering professionals and families with practical, compassionate, and research-informed approaches to supporting children’s mental health.
