To Canadian RPT and RPT-S:
Hi fellow Canadian play therapists and supervisors,
We have received concerns from members that some clinicians have taken the route to become an RPT or RPT-S with APT in the US, rather than becoming certified with CAPT. We are seeking feedback about the factors, including any concerns or challenges, that lead to your decision to not take the CAPT route. We believe it is important for all of us, who practice play therapy in Canada, to be included in our Canadian Play Therapy Association. Recently, we have been pleased to see that more members are pursuing certification with CAPT.
To make certification more attainable for members, we have made changes to the CPT and CPT-S standards which have been approved by the CAPT board. Please check out the updated certification standards and procedures on the website.
There are many advantages of being certified members and supervisors with CAPT, to name a few:
- Your profile will be listed on the CAPT website, which will allow more than 500 Canadian members and the public to view and contact for your service;
- When you become a CPT-S, you will be able to provide supervision for members who are pursuing certification with CAPT; and you will be able to pursue being on the roster to teach CAPT sponsored trainings including the well-received foundation play therapy program. You will receive a copy of the newly published CAPT Supervisor Resource Handbook.
- You will be invited to CAPT annual conference where you can meet fellow Canadian play therapists and share your skills and experiences.
- You will receive the quarterly published Playground magazine.
Today, on behalf of the CAPT Certification committee, with the approval of the CAPT board, I would like to share with you an exciting special offer – a limited time porting of RPT and RPT-S to become certified members with CAPT. Here are the requirements and procedures:
- from now to Dec 31st, 2024
- any RPT who has been granted the RPT status for over 1 year can be ported to be a CPT with CAPT with 10 hours of clinical supervision from a CPT-S.
- any RPT-S can be ported to be a CPT-S with CAPT with 2 hours of clinical supervision on their supervision from a CPT-S.
- A one-time certification application fee will be waived during this period.
- Annual membership fee will be required as usual for the above two categories.
After Jan 1st, 2025, newly certified RPT and RPT-S will be required to meet the CAPT Certification Standards and follow the regular procedures.
I would like to invite you to take advantage of this special offer and join the Canadian play therapy association. Please contact CAPT (scott@canadianplaytherapy.com, or certification@canadianplaytherapy.com) if you are interested or require further information. We are working on a special application form, and we will send it to you on request.
In addition, we consider offering special supervision groups throughout the year of 2024 to help you achieve the supervision requirement. These supervision groups will be at no cost to the applicant and are available to applicants working towards the requirement of porting from APT to CAPT. Please let us know if you would be interested in hearing more about this.
I would also like to invite you to join one of the monthly offered Q&A sessions, to have a direct conversation and to have your questions answered. The time and link are posted on the CAPT website.
We look forward to connecting with you.
Sincerely,
Hannah Sun-Reid, MA, MDE, CPT-S, CTT, CDDPT, RP
