CAPT New Membership Directory – FAQs

Welcome to the new Membership Directory! This resource is designed to support two key groups:

  • Members, who can use the directory to connect with qualified supervisors
  • The public, who can search for Certified Play Therapists in their area

By completing your profile and opting in, you make it easier for others to connect with you—whether for mentorship, collaboration, or therapeutic services—and you help the public ensure they’re receiving support from a qualified and certified play therapist.

Membership Types

No, participation is completely optional. You have full control over whether your information appears in the directory.

Log in to your member account and go to your Directory Profile settings. Check the box that says “Include me in the Membership Directory,” then save your changes.

Yes! You can update your privacy preferences or opt-out at any time in your profile settings.

To be listed, you must:

  • Opt into the directory
  • Have paid your current year’s membership dues
  • Complete the ethics declaration (not required for General or Retired members only)

If you do not meet these conditions, an info message will appear on your Directory tab, but you can still complete your profile.

Yes. Your profile visibility depends on your member status:

  • Full profile: CPT, CPT-S
  • Limited profile: Play Therapy Intern (PTI) (includes name, address, contact information, and credentials)

Listing profile: Retired, General, Student (includes name and province)

We recommend adding:

  • Full name
  • City/Province
  • Organization (if available)
  • A photo (if available)

For certified members (CPT, CPT-S), we also recommend:

  • A short bio about your practice and areas of expertise
  • A professional profile photo

Share a brief overview of your philosophy, approach, and any specific modalities you use (e.g., play therapy, CBT). You can also include a bit about yourself or your practice style to help others understand how you work.

Choose a clear, professional-looking photo of yourself. The system automatically crops a square area from the center of your image, so be sure your face is centered and not too close to the edges. Avoid group shots or photos with distracting backgrounds for best results.

Photos should be saved as a jpg file and should be at least 800px x 800px in  size.

Yes — all content in the directory is member-submitted, so please take a moment to review your bio and profile details for grammar, spelling, and overall accuracy before submitting. If major issues are identified post-launch, CAPT may follow up directly to request revisions.

You control what’s visible. Once you opt in, your name, member type, and location (city/province) will be displayed by default. All other fields are optional and can be set to private or visible only to other members.

Absolutely. You can edit your profile anytime. Note: Once you’ve opted in, any saved information will be visible on your profile page.

To protect members from phishing attempts, CAPT no longer displays email addresses. Instead, we use a secure [Contact Member] button, which allows users to reach out without revealing your personal email.

Because the directory is searchable on Google, you should only include an address you’re comfortable sharing publicly. This should be your business address, if you have one.

If you do not have a business address, leave the address line blank, but make sure to complete the city and province fields so people can still find you by location.

That depends on the information you choose to provide and what your member type supports. Options may include:

  • Phone number
  • Website
  • “Contact Member” button (which sends a message to your email without revealing your address)
  • Physical business address

You’re in control—only the fields you complete will be shown in your directory listing.

Profiles are synced daily at 2:00 AM EST. If your updates were made after that time, your listing will appear the next day.

To see changes sooner (in emergency situations), a manual update can be triggered by the CAPT admin team.

Listings are shown in a randomized order each time the page loads. This ensures equal visibility for all members, regardless of name or location.

Please report any technical issues or errors you have encountered by completing a Technical Issue Reporting Form.

Make sure to include a short description, the page it occurred on, the nature of the error and a screenshot.
